Acute Bacterial Prostatitis in Dogs

چکیده
1Corresponding author : Email : [email protected] Prostatitis represents the inflammatory process of the prostate gland. It is the most common urologic disorder occurring in older intact male dogs (Krawiec, 1994). Prostatitis may be acute or chronic in nature and is generally associated with prostatic infection (Kraft et al., 2008) either by ascending (from the urinary tract) or descending way (on hematogenous route). Till today, treatment of prostatitis is challenging due to poor penetrability of the antimicrobials into the prostate gland and recurrent nature of the disease (Albarellos et al., 2006). This paper describes about the successful medical management of acute bacterial Prostatitis in two dogs.

Prostate-specific antigen levels in acute and chronic bacterial prostatitis.
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is now widely accepted as a useful tumor marker for the diagnosis and follow-up of prostatic cancer. An elevated level of PSA has been asserted to be highly specific for prostate cancer, although patients with large benign prostate glands and those with bacterial prostatitis may also have slightly elevated levels. We measured the serum PSA level in the patients w...

Prostate inflammation is a common syndrome, especially in men under 50. It usually presents with voiding symptoms and pain in the genitourinary area, and sometimes as sexual dysfunction. Based on clinical and laboratory characteristics, prostatitis is classified as acute bacterial prostatitis, chronic bacterial prostatitis, chronic inflammatory and non-inflammatory prostatitis or chronic pelvic...
متن کاملSneezing during Micturition: A Possible Trigger of Acute Bacterial Prostatitis
A perfectly well 39-year-old man sneezed during micturition and developed classic features of acute bacterial prostatitis corroborated by laboratory evidence of prostatic inflammation/infection. The prostate-specific antigen level at presentation was 9.6 ng/mL and declined to 1.23 ng/mL one month later on levofloxacin. This is the first report in the medical literature of sneezing while voiding...
متن کاملAcute Bacterial Prostatitis: Diagnosis and Management.
Acute bacterial prostatitis is an acute infection of the prostate gland that causes pelvic pain and urinary tract symptoms, such as dysuria, urinary frequency, and urinary retention, and may lead to systemic symptoms, such as fevers, chills, nausea, emesis, and malaise. Although the true incidence is unknown, acute bacterial prostatitis is estimated to comprise approximately 10% of all cases of...
متن کاملThe role of antibiotics in the treatment of chronic prostatitis: a consensus statement.
Practical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic prostatitis are presented. Chronic prostatitis is classified as chronic bacterial prostatitis (culture-positive) and chronic inflammatory prostatitis (culture-negative). If chronic bacterial prostatitis is suspected, based on relevant symptoms or recurrent UTIs, underlying urological conditions should be excluded by the following t...
